that's a wrap

our cross-country bus tour comes to a close at sxsw
March 20, 2012  |   column: WHAT'S NEW

sunday last night capped off a bbq, beer and music-filled week at sxsw, the highlight of which was friday’s rocking performance by mad maude and the hatters (3,8). in their much-anticipated debut, our battle of the bands winners charmed the crowd with a five-song set performed under perfectly sunny skies, and we couldn’t gave been prouder. the vivian girls (6) also sang their hearts out, giving a pitch-perfect show against the backdrop of our tour bus, which we parked just behind the stage at brazos and second street in downtown austin.

we pulled together these greatest-hits pictures of our time in texas, including a shot of our favorite furry friend, “bang” (2), who became our unofficial mascot for the week. the well-primped pup, who belonged to our stage master, just happened to show up wearing a collar in the same fetching coral as our new bond street florence bag.

we soaked up plenty of local flavor during the week, including these “little larry” margaritas (11) at our first tex-mex pit stop, and this addictively spicy ice cream at cool haus (9) where we sampled scoops of cilantro/pineapple and strawberry/jalapeno. we hit the famous torchy’s tacos (14), where we loaded up on chips and queso and fried avocado tacos (yum!), and we waited in line for two hours to sample franklin’s famous bbq (9), which, we can confirm, is the best we’ve ever had (and well worth the wait). on saturday there were plenty of irish toasts and people showing off their st. paddy’s day cheer, including this friend from the bus (5) who posed with our green posey park statement necklace. we also hit up the old-school-cool horseshoe lounge, which has no windows—designed to maintain the down-home, under-the-radar vibe, we were told.

all in all, it was a roaring success. thanks to all our wonderful fans and, of course, our brilliant bands—we see a lot more buzz in their futures. stay tuned…
