welcome back to our summer friday series, where we tag along with staffers on their half-day fridays (and luxuriously longer weekends). this week, we recap a few days in san diego of beach snorkeling, winery-hopping and the best fish tacos north of the border…

who: wendy chan

job: junior graphic designer

where: san diego, california

why: “classic california beaches, minus the infamous california traffic. plus, amazing wineries are just a few miles away.”

1. hello sunshine:  “driving through the winding roads of san diego we were surrounded by breathtaking views of the pacific ocean.”

2. raise a glass: “enjoying mimosas over brunch at barbella, made with fresh california orange juice, of course.”

3. beach bum: “surfers and kayakers sprinkle the coast of la jolla shores, one of the best beaches in san diego. we went snorkeling and swam with jelly fish, leopard sharks and stingray.”

4. food fix: “the best spicy shrimp tacos can be found at oscar’s mexican seafood. they’re made with melted cheese and topped with fresh avocado. perfection.”

5. just my type: “as a graphic designer, i couldn’t help but notice all the bright hand-painted signs and colorful murals that fill the city. i loved this one for its vivid colors and beautiful typography.”

6. glow on: “people-watching and relaxing at sunset cliff—the perfect spot to catch the sunset.”

7. grape nuts: “we hit a few wineries in temecula, about an hour outside the city. we wandered the vineyards, where the plumpest grapes i’d ever seen grew in luscious shades of greens and purples.”
