whether you’re thanking a friend for a long weekend at her beach house or expressing your gratitude for the perfect birthday present, a handwritten note is always appropriate and will make your mother proud. that said, it’s perfectly fine to express your thanks for a special event the same way you were invited—if the hostess phoned to ask you to drinks on the spur of the moment, feel free to call her the day after. either way, remember to include a memorable little anecdote about the evening that will make your hostess smile.

a word to the wise: while you should write a thank-you note as soon as possible, it’s never too late to put pen to paper. and if you’re the holly golightly, five-parties-a-night-every-night type, do yourself a favor and keep a stack of notecards with stamped envelopes at your desk. looking for the perfect stationery? we’ve got you covered with our latest collection of fine paper goods.
