in preparation for sunday…

catch up on the unsung heroes of the oscars at IFC theaters

awards show season is upon us with the grand dame of glamour—the oscars—occurring sunday night. every year buzz abounds as we wonder who will walk away with the statues for best picture, best actor or best actress. often lost in this shuffle are the nominated short films; those small but mighty pieces ranging from four to 40 minutes in length. we’ve found that when it comes to these productions, what they lack in playtime they often make up for with passion and charm.

for those of you movie buffs in NYC, IFC center is making it a breeze to catch the shorts before the show. now through march 1st, viewers can buy tickets to watch the nominated films in each of three categories: documentary, animated and live action.

as the forecast this weekend looks dreary, why not make a mini film festival out of it? bonus: if you do it before sunday, you’ll know who to cheer for when the winners are announced.
