the third and final designer in our series on the latest emerging talent to join the prestigious cfda fashion incubator under the mentorship of our own kyle andrew, senior vice president of global marketing, graduated just three years ago from parsons and, along with her business partner max stein, already counts some of fashion’s most influential retailers—including shopbop and barneys—as customers.

i got here by…first studying communications at boston university, and doing a semester abroad in paris where i interned for french fashion magazine l’officiel. after graduating, i studied fashion design at parsons and interned for proenza schouler and rag & bone.
i started designing handbags because….i’ve always loved them, and during an accessories course at parsons i started playing with techniques i had been exploring in apparel design and using them as a basis to design handbags.
it made sense to launch my own line when…we saw a void in the market for an independent designer handbag brand with a unique point of view–one not attached to a large fashion house, and conversely not a made-in-china contemporary brand derivative of other designer brands, either.
you can always spot a reece hudson bag because it’s….fashion-forward but not trendy, modern but with classic appeal. it’s downtown but sophisticated, and works day-to-night.
my favorite pieces from the spring 2013 collection is…the stendahl perforated metal evening bag in rose gold and black; the siren mini bag in gradient snakeskin, and the bowery canteen bag in blue metallic brocade leather.
on any given workday i’m…sketching, doing image research, attending a variety of meetings, and drinking a lot of coffee.
i always wanted to be a designer growing up…my only career aspiration prior to that was a veterinarian, because i assumed that meant i could just play with animals all day.
most valuable thing i learned from kyle….the importance of the process in creating a brand book!
career highlight, so far…is tied between being accepted into the cfda fashion incubator program, and FINALLY selling to barneys–for spring 2013!
